Chin Refugees Impeded For Release in Lenggeng Detention Camp

Kuala Lumpur, March 16 (VOCR):  Many of Chin refugee detainees in Lenggeng detention camp are facing the problematic stop and mistreatment by Burman (those with no document) migrant inmates--championing over other national detainees as well, quoted the confirmed source as saying. Dozens of Chin refugees released last week, 9 March reportedly revealed to VOCR that some of them, while met by UNHCR representing team, OPI, came across a hindrance by Burman migrant detainees.
Always, in attempts for refugees detained to release from detention camps, centers and other lockups, UNHCR is only playing the vital role in such effort.
Obviously, it is learnt that the incident is not because of the denial order of detention authority but particularly be the cause of jealousy of Burman migrants. Many in fact should have released, said one of OPI officers, Ro Binda in UNHCR, although the officer from UNHCR had brought recognized recommendations for detainees.

The claim, meanwhile, the Burman detainees grasp is the UNHCR has only a concern for ethnic minority and releasing them when detained, cited the source. With that being said, UNHCR has to do what has been reported to them in place. Over the past few years, source prompted that prison demonstration set off in several detention camps and centers across the Malay Peninsula was solely motivated by these troubled people.

In an interview with recently released Chin refugees, the victims said of the Burman that they are so cruel that we often times experience being mistreated and even denied going out for medical treatment when visited by NGOs. In addition, it is also rumoured that some of Chin refugee detainees, though they were supposed to be released, were hindered and threatened not to go out from their Block (unspecific) of cell in the prison, cited another man who request for anonymity for his security reason.

The ill-treatment, abusive activity (having detainees sit outside the cell under the very hot daylight), deny of medical treatment and intermingling with the diseased like TB and HIV infected, an order to share everything and lack of provision for hygiene among hundreds of detainees in Lenggeng camp at Women Block, catapulted a deep fear to an entirely new level, perhaps threatening to overshadow loss of detainees' lives according to those (ever detained in the said camps) met by VOCR team.

Refugees Cancelled Their Departure

Kuala Lumpur, March 13 (VOCR): The US department of homeland security is hurling out so many conflicting messages on refugees who take refuge in Malaysia and Thailand that they (DHS) doubly require for further security review, although many of whose departures have been confirmed in Malaysia.
There is more that it needs to be learning the sole cause of this departure cancel wave as its order came directly from Washington that the officers in IRC (International Rescue Committee) and IOM (International Organization of Migrants) department even don't know it and cannot effectively explain about it why and what happens towards the distressed refugees.
Since weeks ago, it has been started speculating about the cancellation of dozens of departures in Malaysia. A few weeks in the past they (IOM dept) could inform those concerned on time, said one of the staffs in IOM.  However, there is such never incident happened like last Monday (7th) that some of those who had been boarded on the bus for traveling to the airport from UNHCR office were immediately called off  their departure, which was because of information sent late by Washington, elucidated the officer in IOM department in UNHCR office.
According to the confirmed source from IRC department in UNHCR, it reveals that 750 refugees from Malaysia—those already confirmed for their departures are being canceled in order for security reason to review once again but it is unable to know how long it will take back to the normal condition. Also, 850 refugees from Thailand are facing the same problem with the unimaginable uncertainty.
All of those face departure cancel are of Myanmar refugees, source said.
On last Monday cancellation, one of the victims among dozens of whose departures canceled said to VOCR that 12 cases of their batch were, though 15 cases escaped from this havoc, told about their departure cancellation after being boarded on the bus and returning to the office of UNHCR as to heed an explanation by the related department. It was such a terrible. "We got shocked and extremely fearful for all of us" continued him, "A moment later, one of the high-ranked officers from IRC came to us and telling us that it is not the thing they did (here in Malaysia) and is beyond their ability to do so but just a clear order from Washington for furthering security review again".
Some of the victims those with family members will surely have a big challenging problem for living as the fact that their apartment had been reverted to the owner and belongings sold to friends. Mr. Henry Sui Hmung said "For me, I no choice have to rely on my friends for the time being". It was also learnt that none of any financial aid for transportation wasn't made out for them despite there was a demand from the victims.
A credible or fair thing from the respective office should be done. Nonetheless, IOM department only provided the phone for them in attempts to call friends or relatives to take them home from the office. It sounds a very big issue for every single of refugee in Malaysia.
The VOCR team is committed compiling the concrete information in ways we could bring the reliable and firmed source to you in addition to a vast range of Chin affairs occur in all corners in Malaysia.

A Female of Chin Refugee Abused

Kuala Lumpur, March 03 (VOCR): A recognised Chin refugee named Lal Awm Pui from Lungding, Thantlang Township, Chin state on Wednesday was physically abused by his Chinese employer, known as A Chai in Karian, Pahang state, Malaysia. It was learnt that she was at start recruited to the job (to A Chai) by her cousin sister and had worked there for several months.

The job she worked under A Chai was very difficult as she is a girl with some health problems according to an interview on the phone with the victim, adding that she told her boss well about her preparation to leave the job and moving to her relative in other place where she could find a suitable work for her in Karian, Pahang. Despite having being appeared to mention nothing about it from the get-go when another move was introduced to him, her former boss, approached to her and started blowing her with a strong fist on her lips and cheeks that that left her cheek wounded in addition to being bled from her lips at the end of last February, said a close friend of her during the interview.

From the side of the victim, she claimed that she was brutally hit at a time when demanded of her pay just a day before she planned to move to her relatives.

No matter how she told him of her preparation for move to other place on the condition of her health, the boss apparently seemed unkind to pay her salary- although the fact that paying what she deserved for her work is a must-to-do act of conscience even if her status is strange to him.

Report to OPI department in UNHCR office was helped reported by one of the interpreters in the office but it didn’t work for full of queue number for a day as there seems no immediate action can be taken into account. The case has been referred to HEI (Health Equity Initiative), which is a newly sprang up NGOs, taking an active role of solving the common problems facing refugees in Malaysia, such as, extortion, payment abuse, cab driver cheating and dealing with police in terms of arrest.

BURMESE MIGRANTS MAKE BOGUS CARD OF CHIN COMMUNITY

Copy of Fraud Card issued by Burmese Migrant
A genuine card of CRC issued in CRC office

Kuala Lumpur (VOCR): 01 March, the Burmese (the mainland Burman) migrants in Malaysia, as it was mentioned in the previous posted article that says the Burman made fake card of UNHCR, doubly taking another initial of doing Chin community card, reportedly learning that the card is of CRC (Chin Refugee Committee).

According to the confirmed source, it reveals that a group of Burmese migrants working in Malaysia, esp, in the city center of Kota Raja area in Kuala Lumpur where there is a hub of the black and underground business run, is making a fraud card of CRC in ugly shape for those (of Burmese) stay with no documents and it's been used in public for long.

To be true, the CRC body is not capable of tracing this underground trend. Yet, the fact that the UNHCR appeared that they could manage to catch a Burmese guy with the fake card of CRC in red handed and at once they warned and let CRC office know about what is going on related to the threats of its fake card made by Burmese by one of the officers from UNHCR office. Also, it came to be aware of what kind of effective awareness should be done for the sub-committees and all concerned members.

It seems impossible, except for the part of UNHCR, to take any serious action towards the transgressors as an illegal body run by refugees. Refugees in Malaysia are still regarded as illegal person as the country is not a signatory of the United Nations Convention of 1951. Consequently, whatever any committee or community run by refugees do in this transit-country will not be assumed as legal function of act.
